The Experience Lounge at the NewsGator Collective is a cozy space where people are talking about our software and how they use it. People who are passionate about social, mobile and UX, including Nick Bradbury, the director of UX and UI at NewsGator and the developer of the Android app – and me – are showing people what real social-mobile looks like and how it can work for them.
Synergy is sponsoring the lounge and showing off their branding and custom solutions to businesses looking to enhance their SharePoint experience; they even brought some light-up Synergy yo-yos, which are everywhere!
We thought we would spend the majority of the time demoing the new mobile apps to people; the iPhone and Android apps are built with a focus on UX and are concrete examples of NewsGator's pursuit of more people-friendly software. Of course, we do demo the apps, but what’s really interesting are the conversations! Social really is about listening — and it turns out that most of the time is spent simply listening and talking to people about their experiences using Social Sites.
As software developers, we aren't always able to have face-to-face interactions with the people who end up using the software, but it’s so important that we do. The Experience Lounge gives us the unique opportunity to hear this feedback firsthand. It’s fascinating to hear the broad spectrum of interactions, the frustrations, the delight, and the suggestions. The Experience Lounge is a success because the mobile and UX team are taking away so many perspectives that we can then use to make Social Sites and the mobile apps even better. If you are currently at the Collective, please stop by and see us! And if you have any questions about how to make social-mobile a reality for your business, contact me directly!
