We survived Las Vegas and the SharePoint Conference! And while my feet are killing me, my enthusiasm for NewsGator and empowering social collaboration continues to surge upwards. I spent last week talking about the great solutions we deliver on top of SharePoint; solutions that continue to fuel productivity across the Global 2000. Although this is only my second time attending the SharePoint Conference, I have really come to enjoy it. All of the attendees already know SharePoint, and most of them know it really well. Which means I get to spend more time talking about what’s really important – the value NewsGator provides.
And as I’ve seen over the previous two and a half years in my tenure at NewsGator, enterprise social has come a long way. There’s been a shift in how we’re talking about social – I’m no longer convincing people why it’s important but instead I’m helping them understand how our product can solve their business problems. Furthermore, with their recent acquisition of Yammer, Microsoft has seemingly gone all in on social. I’m sure you noticed it as a major theme of the conference.
Most of the folks I spoke with at the conference were curious to know how NewsGator will continue to provide value as a result of the social additions to SharePoint 2013. First, I always like to point out; let’s not forget that we’ve been the most trusted, enterprise-class social solution for SharePoint for over five years. We’re very much a thriving organization – one that will continue to innovate and improve the SharePoint user experience. That is not changing.
Without covering every nuance (something we are happy to do – so please reach out), let’s explore one example of our continued innovation. SharePoint 2013 now has an activity stream, a fundamental social capability. In our recent summer release, we added Lookout. Lookout is a smart way to configure your activity stream based on items that are most relevant to you. This makes it easier for you to keep up with the information that matters, allowing you to be more productive. We’re also leveraging this new way to consume your activity stream in our new Windows 8 app and across mobile devices. Lookout is just one great example we provide to enhance the social experience available in SharePoint 2013. As Microsoft’s trusted, go-to partner for enterprise-class social solutions, we will continue to deliver business value and extend the social features above and beyond SharePoint to make businesses smarter, more productive, and ultimately, more successful.
I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with our new CEO, and am excited about the vision he brings to the table. NewsGator is going to be doing a ton of awesome things over the next few months, which will continue to enhance our product and provide our customers with the tools they need to be successful.
