Engagement and empowerment at work
Most of us actually enjoy working. Don’t you love to add value and create something meaningful? I definitely love it. But let’s face it, too often, endless procedures, politics, and policies take that away. Don’t believe me? Actually, 60% of businesses require up to three approvals for even the simplest HR requests. No wonder employee productivity suffers, communication is lacking, and some of you might even give up.
“Nothing is more rewarding than accomplishment, and nothing is a bigger drain on motivation than outstanding tasks.”
While every organization requires some sort of administrative structure, those can become a real pain to the extent that they take away time from your real work. And not just time, even worse - your passion. Write it down: Everything that slows down our willingness (engagement) to go the extra mile, or limits our ability (empowerment) to get stuff done, is killing our passion and with that, our productivity.
Almost all my whiteboard sessions start with our mission. “Make Work Better” by improving two things: Employee engagement and empowerment. It isn’t magic. It is simply about cutting back on the distracting tasks cluttering up our workplace. I wrote an entire article on this topic; check it out on SmartBlogs.
