Pokémon: Poliwag drives BYOD
Do you like Pokémon GO? You don’t have to. But you need to understand that the future of mobile is just getting started. While saying “no” was a valid answer for many years in IT, it is getting harder and harder to say no to BYOD.
We have a fair share of Pokémon GO fans. The thing they all have in common, is they use it on the same device they use for Sitrion ONE. One minute they hunt for Poliwag and Drowzee, the next minute they receive critical HR information. The mobile phone aggregates everything that matters in their life, and work is just part of their life.
I know BYOD disturbs the fragile balance that many reestablished just after the mobilization of BlackBerry first shook the system. In fact, some research suggests that 83 percent of businesses are still struggling with how to deal with BYOD. But the idea of work as a place you go in the morning and come home from at night is evaporating. Work isn’t where you go; it’s what you do. The same is happening with our mobile devices. BYOD is not a trend, it is just the logical result of work and life being the same thing.
If you are looking for a more business-centric view on BYOD and how to address this, I wrote an article for ITProPortal that might be of interest to you.
