The first steps
It was 1996 when I made my first visit to Starbucks. I had a Chocolate Chip Frappuccino in Singapore sitting on the exact steps you see in the picture. I had not planned to be half way around the world or even considered working in Asia - until a friend of a friend introduced me to her boss. One letter and a 10 minute phone call later and my life changed forever.
Sometime after, I asked my boss why he hired me after just a 10 minute interview over the phone. He simply said that I came from the same network as the interns before and they have always been the best hires. The short phone call was just to confirm that we would get along.
I started writing this blog on the very same steps in front of the same Starbucks in Singapore while preparing the last details for our Sitrion Collective event in Sydney, reflecting on our mission to unlock the power of connected people.
Now that the Collective 2014 tour around the world is complete, I can't help but smile about how one network connection so many years back may have been the starting point for all of this, at least for me. Sitting on those steps again was a great reminder that it's all about people. From my personal experience, and not just the Singapore example, I can say there is no better way to make life better.
Another Sitrion adventure starts next week in Orlando. If you're interested in learning about how we can make your work and life better, we are exhibiting at the SAPPHIRE NOW & ASUG 2014 Conference. So I encourage you to stop by our booth (#447) to see how we can help you start your journey to a smarter enterprise and unlock the power of connected people.
